Fire Extinguisher Instructions
- Preparing to Extinguish
Once you have finished burning, use a metal shovel to transfer the hot ash and embers to a metal ash container. Transferring the ash to this special container will help to safely extinguish your fire.
- Drench or Sand
After removing the embers, pour water or sand over the ash and embers remaining in the firebox to ensure that the entire firebox is cool.
- Stirring Ash and Embers
After dousing with water, stir the ash to ensure that no smoldering debris remains. Add water or sand as needed.
- Checking the Temperature
Before leaving the firebox, check to see if the firebox is cold. If you still feel warm, continue to water or sand.
- Making Sure the Firebox is Completely Out
The firebox should be completely out and safe from re-ignition.
