Fire Extinguisher Instructions

  1. Preparing to Extinguish
Once you have finished burning, use a metal shovel to transfer the hot ash and embers to a metal ash container. Transferring the ash to this special container will help to safely extinguish your fire.
  2. Drench or Sand
After removing the embers, pour water or sand over the ash and embers remaining in the firebox to ensure that the entire firebox is cool.
  3. Stirring Ash and Embers
After dousing with water, stir the ash to ensure that no smoldering debris remains. Add water or sand as needed.
  4. Checking the Temperature
Before leaving the firebox, check to see if the firebox is cold. If you still feel warm, continue to water or sand.
  5. Making Sure the Firebox is Completely Out
The firebox should be completely out and safe from re-ignition.

Remember: Using a metal ash pan and shovel will increase safety and help keep the fire area clean.
